Will a graduate school or employer be able to see my Code of Conduct violation?

Georgetown creates and maintains a Disciplinary Record for every student who is found responsible for a violation. Georgetown is not permitted to release this record without written consent from the student. Graduate schools and employers may ask you for any disciplinary record and you may feel obligated to provide it. It is extremely unlikely, however, that a graduate school or employer denies you based on one less-severe violation like noise, alcohol, marijuana, etc. Once a student graduates from Georgetown, that record turns into an Internal Record, which is maintained for 7 years after graduation, but cannot be accessed by anyone except individuals acting in a student’s educational interests.

Marijuana is decriminalized in D.C. Can I smoke it on campus?

No. Georgetown is a federally funded university, which means it must adhere to the federal guidelines laid out by the United States Government, which defines marijuana as a Scheduled 1 controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, due to its potential for abuse and lack of medical value. Georgetown will penalize marijuana and/or paraphernalia usage or possession on university campus/property with Disciplinary Probation. In the District of Columbia, the possession of up to two ounces of marijuana is decriminalized, although sale, purchase, and public consumption is still illegal.

Can my internet activity be tracked when I’m taking a test on Canvas?

Yes and no. Canvas allows professors to view student interactions on the site as well as track when students open new tabs or leave the Canvas page during tests or quizzes. However, professors are unable to see the specific websites students are visiting when they leave.
